About these guidelines

These guidelines cover Mirage, where people chat, post and meet, and anywhere else you share with others in Cactive. They sit with the Terms of Use and the Acceptable Use Policy, and are how we work towards the Basic Online Safety Expectations the Australian Government sets for online services.

Community guidelines

  • Treat people with respect. No harassment, bullying, threats or hate.
  • Don’t share intimate images of anyone without their consent, or anything that sexualises children.
  • Don’t post violent extremist material or content that encourages self-harm.
  • Be yourself: don’t impersonate people or mislead others about who you are.
  • No spam, scams or unwanted promotion.
  • Keep adult content to age-restricted channels.
  • Respect each server’s own rules, which its moderators set and enforce.

Age limits

  • You need to be at least 13 to have an account.
  • Mirage’s social features (profiles, follows, posts, feeds, stories and live) aren’t open to anyone we know to be under 16, under Australia’s social media minimum age. Chat, direct messages and voice stay open.
  • Age-restricted channels are only for people 18 and over, and stay hidden in the phone app unless an adult turns them on.
  • We go by your date of birth, and may ask for a face check. The Privacy Policy explains how it works and what we keep.

Reporting, blocking and filtering

  • Report a message, a person, a server, a post or a story from its menu. A server’s moderators see reports about their server, and our safety team reviews every report, including direct messages you report. You hear back when a report is reviewed.
  • Block someone from their card or profile. They can’t message you, see your posts or profile, or follow you, and you won’t see theirs.
  • Mute words and accounts in Feed. Server moderators filter words, links and spam with AutoMod.
  • For anything else, including content elsewhere in Cactive, email support@cactive.com.au.

What we do

  • Server moderators can remove messages, time people out, and remove or ban members of their server. Our staff can remove public posts that break these guidelines, and tell their author why.
  • For serious or repeated breaches we may restrict or close an account, as the Terms of Use set out.
  • We report content to the authorities where the law requires it, and keep a copy of what was reported.
  • If you think we got a decision wrong, email us and a person will look at it again.

Getting help

  • If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 in Australia, or your local emergency number.
  • In Australia, if you’ve reported serious online harm to us and we haven’t dealt with it, you can complain to the eSafety Commissioner.
