Write together, with every document in Drive
Everyone with the document open edits at once and sees the others' changes as they type. Sharing, versions and storage are Drive's, so a document works like any other file.
Editing together
The people in the document are shown in the header, each in their own colour, and everyone sees the others' changes as they type.
Saved as you go
Changes save as you make them. Offline, keep writing: your changes stay in the browser and are sent when you're back.
Sharing
Share as you would in Drive: people and teams as viewers, commenters or editors, or a link for your organisation or for anyone, with a password if you like.
Version history
Versions are saved every few minutes while people edit. Name the ones to keep, make a copy of one, or restore it as a new version, so nothing is lost.
A document is a file like any other

Who can do what
Viewers read and download, commenters also comment, and editors also edit, share and restore versions.

Downloads and print
Download a document as Markdown or plain text, or print its pages as you see them.
Open Markdown files
Open a Markdown file from Drive in Documents: it becomes a new document beside the original, which stays as it was.
